About ME

Hi there, I'm Donna! A restless wanderer,

a perpetual dreamer. I may be in my 40's now but that doesn't stop me from living the life that i love, the life of travel.

Christmas Photo Spots In Athens

Are you visiting Athens during the holiday season? Well, you're in luck because it's truly the most wonderful time of the year! This time is extra special, as we revert to our pre-pandemic celebratory life. Athens is lit, shining and shimmering.

On the other hand, the Christmas rush is real... from shopping to endless parties ... so if you are stressed and pressed for time and have no time to explore, here is a cheat sheet of my favorite spots to take Christmas photos in Athens.

1. MS Roof Garden

Athinas 1 & Ermou

Famous for its insane view of the Acropolis. For Christmas, I'd give it a vote for one the pettiest Christmas Lane. Filled with lights and various decors, you can certainly feel the Christmas spirit in the air.

Best time to take photo would be early in the morning (just before daylight), no crowd and the lights are on.

2. Ciel

Mnisikleous, Mitropoleos 2

If you are like me and have a thing for pretty little lanes, then Ciel is going to likely float your boat. Nothings speaks more Christmas than red balls, sparkling lights and that's what Ciel's theme is all about.

Best time to take photos would also be just be before daylight. They don't turn of the lights and you pretty much have the place to yourself.

3. Little Kook

Karaiskaki 17

Little Kook has always been a definition of festive, but during the Christmas season they go all out with decors. Certainly no expense spared in making sure the place is fully accessorized with garlands and pretty Christmas embellishments.

If you want to avoid the crowd, go early in the morning, but during daylight as they do turn off the lights. It is more enchanting with lights on, but you do have to contend with having people around.

4. Syntagma Square

Syntagma, Athens

Feel the festivities and fill your heart with joy and your camera with photos as the center square of Athens lit up.

Ornaments dominate the area and have a filled day experimenting with angles and perspective.

5. Public Store

Karagiorgi 1

The Public store by Syntagma Square turns into a giant present as it covered its store with lights depicting a box with bow.

This is fully appreciated only with lights on, unfortunately the lights are not on all throughout the night. So going before dawn doesn't really work, so just brave the crowd at night.

6. Grande Bretagne

1 Vasileos Georgiou A

Syntagma Square St.

The opulence of Grande Bretagne steps up a notch higher with its grand and sparkling decors. The entrance and the door are the best spot for a photo.

7. Ermou Street

Ermou Athens

Ok, the lights maybe more on the minimalist side, but hey the lights still make for a good photo op. This is a pedestrian street so it's relatively easy to take a photo.

8. Stars Street Lights

Leof. Vasilissis Sofias /Panepistimiou

This is a grander display of Christmas street lights but taking photo is of course challenging due to automobile traffic.

Safest way is to just position yourself in the pedestrian side street or on a traffic island.

9. City Link

Amerikis 4

Not only is this an awesome place for dining, hanging out and shopping but for taking Christmas photos as well. You can find the perfect spot for your new year photo.

10. Acropolis as your backdrop

Just create your own magic, use the iconic landmarks of Athens especially the Acropolis to create Christmas Photos. Don Christmas costume or maybe just a Santa hat, add some lights... and there you go,an accurate representation of Christmas in Greece.

If you have more time venture out and check other spots lile the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, the Ellinikon experience park
